Most days at work, I sit at a desk.  Some days, I get paid to enjoy nature and play.  Today was one of those kids of days!

What a day it’s been!  I was up at 5:30 am and out of the house by the time my regular alarm goes off so I could hit the road.  I had a retreat for work today and had to be there by 8:00 am.  Or so I was told.  I got there ten minutes late and was the fifth person to arrive.  Out of about thirty.  Not cool.  What was cool, though, was that the retreat was at SpringHill Camp which is where I went on youth group retreats growing up, so it’s always fun to be back there again!

Breakfast was the exact same bagel/sunflower seed combo as yesterday, and the caramel macchiato I grabbed before hitting the highway.  It was early.  Both have been on the blog about 3,812 times (only a slight exaggeration).  So, no pictures.

Anyhow, the morning was pretty uneventful in work related sessions, before we broke for lunch.  The vegetarian options were somewhat limited, but I made do and had a salad and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  The jelly was a strawberry apple.  Super delish.

Plus, a tasty apple danish for dessert.

After lunch comes the fun, play in nature part of the day!  First up, a trail ride!  Say hay to my new buddy, Utah.  Get it, hay?  Because it’s a horse?  Ha. So punny.  This, my dears, is why I should not blog late at night after a long day.  But, I digress.

Seriously, Utah is a beautiful horse!  As was the scenery!

After the trail ride, it was snack time!  Because clearly, the apple danish at lunch wasn’t enough.  Okay, it was, but there’s always room for ice cream!

Next up, the zip line (aka getting strapped into a harness attached to a really heavy, super high duty steel rope, atop a tower hundreds of feet high, then jumping and sliding down the rope to the bottom)!  It’s so much fun, I promise!  Last year’s retreat was my first experience and I quickly realized zip lining is a blasty!

And then, the retreat was over and it was time to hit the road again!  Once I got back into town, I went to the Y for my first workout since Saturday’s 25k!  It’s about time, right?!  I did a cardio session on the elliptical for 30 minutes (2.46 miles).  My knee held up pretty well, but got a little angry with me near the end.  I spent about another 30 minutes doing strength and core work.

  • Plank:  1 minute, 30 seconds, 30 seconds
  • Bicep curls, 12 reps x 3 sets
  • Triceps curls, 12 x 3
  • Chest flys, 15 x 3
  • Sit ups, 10 x 3
  • Bicycle crunches, 10/side x 3
  • Push-ups (from the knee), 12 x 3

It felt so great to get a good workout in!!  As much as I knew I needed the time to rest and recover from a race that was really hard on me, I truly did miss working out, which is definitely something I never thought I’d say!

I rounded out the night with the movie Bridesmaids with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, both of Saturday Night Live fame.  It was absolutely hilarious and I laughed aloud many, many times.  As long as a few crude moments don’t offend you, go see this movie!  I’m not a huge movie quoting person, but I’ll definitely be using this gem in the near future:

‎”You’re prettier than Cinderella and you smell like pine needles and your face is like sunshine!”

Perhaps much more hilarious in the context of the movie…so do yourself a favor and go see it! 😉  Seriously.  Go now.
