wine tasting the day away.

After the 10k this morning, all I wanted was breakfast and the faster we could get it, the better!  My dad and stepmom love Rounds, this total hole in the wall place that’s apparently popular with the locals, so we headed there.

Buttermilk pancakes?  Yes, please!

I ate about 2/3 of the stack before I had to call it quits.  After breakfast, we headed back to the hotel so everyone could shower and look a bit more presentable before heading out for the day.  There are a TON of wineries around the Traverse City area, so we hit up a few for some tastings.

First up was Black Star Farms, which is the only one we went to that I wasn’t familiar prior to getting there.  They had some really great wines and out of the five I tasted, there was only one I wasn’t thrilled with.  My favorite was definitely Be Dazzled – not only did it taste great, I loved the name!

The next destination was Chateu Chantal which is not only a winery but a bed and breakfast!  I’ve had their wine previously and enjoyed it, so I was excited to go try a few that I was unfamiliar with!  I loved the wine but because it is such a well-known place, the tasting room was a bit too busy for my liking.

Our final stop was Bowers Harbor.  I’ve had their wine as well, but what I was truly more excited about is that their pet dogs wander around the property, so I really just wanted to play with the puppy.  Right now, they have a Bernese Mountain Dog named Brix and he was so stinking cute!  I wanted to take him home!  Except, I was clearly far more excited about him than he was about me.

Next time, I’m bringing dog treats.

Oh, and I tried the wine too.  My favorite was actually their newest bottle, Brix.  Yes, named after the dog.  They do that for every dog and there is always a sketch of the pup on the label.  I think that alone makes it one of my favorite wineries ever!

After the winery tour, it was back to the hotel for nap time!  I think we were all exhausted – and three stops on the winery tour really didn’t help my case.  I was practically asleep every time we got in the car!

My dad and stepmom made us dinner reservations at Phil’s on Front.  They’re a big fan of the chef who they’ve been following around to all the restaurants he’s worked at for a few years now and found out not too long ago he had opened his own restaurant.

I gladly started out with a mochatini and inhaled enjoyed some bread.

The menu was very seafood and meat dominated, but fortunately there was a vegetarian friendly option of fettucini pompodoro.  There were chili flakes in the dish which gave it a really unique flavor!  I loved the little extra kick that it had!

My dad and stepmom both enjoyed dessert, but I was comfortably full and really didn’t feel like I needed any.  Yes, you read that right.  I turned down dessert.  Apparently I do have some willpower in there somewhere!

It’s been such a long day!  It’s barely 9 pm and I am about ready to fall asleep!  I’ve got the heating pad on my knees and I’m curling up with a book for awhile then (hopefully) getting a solid night of sleep.
