weekly workout recap: week of 05.29.11

in Last Week's Workouts

Here we are again!  I debated if it was even worth writing this post because, to be honest, it was an extremely underwhelming week.

My goals for the week of May 29 – June 4 were:

  • elliptical/run:  8-10 miles
  • strength:  1 Powerflex class + 3 core
  • yoga:  practice 1-2 times

After last weekend’sBayshore 10k, my knee was killing me.  The combination of three races in one month plus being undertrained for well, all three, was tough on my body.  My knee was hurting so badly that simply walking was really tough.  Yesterday was really the first day that it didn’t bother me.  With that and knowing I had one calm week before marathon training starts, I ultimately played it low-key.

I got one session of PowerFlex in and that was literally it.  I kind of feel like I let myself down.  I intentionally kept my goals small and I couldn’t even do that.

Knowing I’m house/dog sitting this week makes it harder to hit up my usual classes at the Y because I have to let the dogs out and feed them dinner right after work.  Getting back downtown is not realistic at all.  Since it is my first week of marathon training, I want to focus on small mileage runs and some yoga.  Start out light and keep it simple.  That’s all.

  • run:  10 miles
  • yoga:  practice 1-2 times

I know, it’s even less than my goals for last week.  Being injured has really messed with my psyche and I’ve got not a lot of confidence in my capabilities right now.  I doubt my ability to complete a marathon, even if it is 4.5 months away.

My training plan is ready to go.  I’m going to start out slow, rebuild my mileage, my endurance, my speed, but most of all, my faith in what my body can do.  My journey towards the 26.2 miles starts today.

It’s really hard to keep up with your work-out schedule when life gets in the way (dogsitting..) but I know you’ll be able to meet your goals this week. Once you get into your training plan and get through the first week (always the hardest, right?) you’ll feel so much more confident about that marathon! Can’t wait to read about how it goes 🙂
