two ways to live.

Love that.  It was in the signature of an email I got at work first thing this morning and it’s been on my mind ever since.  What a motivational thought to live life as though everything is a miracle.  It’s a challenge, for sure, but I think it would make every day seem that much more precious.

It was another late night watching the Tigers play last night.  Sadly, they got completely crushed by the Yankees.  The teams will wrap up the series in New York on Thursday night – which means I can go to bed at a decent time tonight!  Yay!  Here’s hoping Thursday’s game ends better for the Tigers!

Work this morning was like my own version of hell a temptation on The Biggest Loser.  Someone brought in zucchini bread, plus we celebrated a birthday, so that meant even more treats!  Naturally, all stuff I love, love, love!  I knew if I started eating, it would be easier to eat more throughout the day (three hours later, it’s all still sitting out, just feet from my desk!).  So, I kept my willpower strong and intact.

Not a bite and I’m feeling so proud of myself.  If they’re still around when I leave for the day, I’ll have a couple of the pumpkins as a reward.  Ironic, no?  Rewarding myself with the very thing I am rewarding myself for staying away from.  Yeah, make sense of that one and get back to me.

When I was grocery shopping a couple weeks ago, I saw these new Earthbound Farm Powermeal salads and was intrigued, but didn’t want to pay close to $5 to try one.  This week, though, not only were they on sale, but there was a coupon, so I grabbed the tomatillo black bean protein energy that I had been eyeing the first time.

It comes with the mixed greens and individual packets for all the toppings, so you make your own salad!  Fun!

Altogether, it was 350 calories, 6 grams of fiber, and 8 grams of protein; not too shabby!  The fat was a little high at 12 grams, but for the protein and fiber, I thought it was a fair trade.

This particular salad was a good mix of flavors and texture – the tortilla chips added a good crunch and the salsa had a nice kick.  It was ultimately a great salad and so nice to be able to just grab as I ran out the door this morning!  It’s definitely something I’d only buy if it were on sale, but I can see myself eating it again!

What tricks do you have to stay strong in the face of food temptations?

I have one simple rule for this type of temptation. No food at work unless I brought it (or bought it)!! Takes away the temptation altogether because I know it is not an option. Halloween to the first week of January is the worst for this.
