Today is my 28th birthday!  Holy cow!

For the past couple weeks, I’ve had this feeling deep down that this will be an amazing, life changing kind of year.  So much that I was pretty much completely over being 27 and just ready for the fresh start of a birthday.  I think that I love birthdays much more than New Year’s for a fresh start.

I don’t know what it is about this particular year, but it’s just that feeling, you know?  Whether it’s true or not, I’m determined to do my part to make it a great 365 days…or go all RENT style and make it a great 525,600 minutes.

In all seriousness, I do have a lot of hope for this year to go come.  I want to make the most of it, to work on becoming a better me, to live the best kind of life.

As she often does (whether she knows it or not) Heather inspired me yet again.  She turned 28 earlier this year and created a 28 in 28 list of the things she hopes to do while 28.  I loved the idea so much, so I made my own list (and may have borrowed some of the ideas from her list in the creation of my own).

Without further ado, the 28 things I hope to accomplish while I’m 28 years old:

  1. read 28 classic books (from BBC’s top 100 list)
  2. read 28 for fun books
  3. lose 28 pounds
  4. run/bike 28 miles a week
  5. run a sub-28:28 5k
  6. hold a plank position for 2.8 minutes (2 minutes, 48 seconds)
  7. make 28 new recipes
  8. try 28 new dishes at my favorite restaurants
  9. spend less than $28 a week eating out
  10. try 28 new foods
  11. try 28 new beers
  12. go without soda for 28 days
  13. make a playlist with music from 28 new-to-me artists
  14. make a playlist of 28 songs that never fail to make me smile
  15. memorize 28 Bible verses (which goes well with one of my 101 in 1001 goals to memorize 30!)
  16. journal 28 pages a month
  17. watch 28 Oscar Best Picture films
  18. read 28 poems by well-known poets (Keats, Browning, etc)
  19. send 28 “just because” cards to family and friends
  20. get rid of (donate/sell/recycle/throw away) 28 items each month
  21. add 28 professional clothing items to my wardrobe
  22. donate $28 a month to charity
  23. create 28 pages in my scrapbook
  24. make cookies/baked goods for 28 friends
  25. watch 28 documentaries
  26. answer 28 of the 50 questions that will free your mind
  27. listen to 28 new podcasts
  28. write 28 notes of affirmation to each of the girls I mentor

Two non-28 related goals (because all of the above clearly isn’t enough!) are to complete the 365 photo project and read through the whole Bible.

I’ll write more about each of these goals throughout the upcoming year, but I’m so excited to challenge myself with each item on the list.  Some focus on health, some on giving back, some on educating myself, and some on just fun things.

I’ve got a feeling that it’s gonna be a good year…a good, good year.  🙂

I love podcasts. Which ones do you listen to now?

Aren’t podcasts great?! I generally listen to a lot of the NPR stuff like This American Life. Any suggestions for your favorites?

I really like Stuff You Should Know from HowStuffWorks. Their podcast goes way back and they have tons of stuff in their archive. Sometimes I listen to another podcast from their app called Stuff Mom Never Told You. RadioLab and The Moth are sometimes good too – but for me they are more hit or miss.
