the last run.

I had my last pre-National Half Marathon run today. My knee was acting up a bit, so I kept it short and sweet. I did 2.5 miles in 27:04 (10:49 pace).  I wanted to do more, but I had a strong feeling that if I pushed it too much, I was going to sideline myself with how badly it was hurting.  Not cool 2 days before a big race!  Since I didn’t run as much as I’d like, I spent a bit extra time stretching and doing a few yoga poses.

Pre-run snackage of honey wheat pretzels (this, times two…they were tasty!).

I got home and finished up my packing for this weekend’s trip to DC!  I was obsessively concerned that I was going to forget something I need for the race!  I am notorious for forgetting things on trips and race day would be a horrible time to realize that happened!  After double and triple checking, I’m feeling confident.  A toothbrush, I can buy when I get there.  A pair of perfectly broken in Saucony running shoes?  Not so much.

I met up with my friend Laura tonight to catch up on life.  We went to a J. Gardella’s, a pretty legit tavern downtown.  I had a Groupon that was about to expire, so I wanted to use that up.

I had a Blue Moon Belgian White and some spinach artichoke dip.

Their tortilla chips had a funky seasoning, almost a barbeque-esque flavor.  I’m not sure I was a fan.  I think it probably would have worked better with something other than spin dip.

The Groupon was for $20 and the bill didn’t come to that much, even with adding Laura’s chips and salsa.  Our waitress said the computer wouldn’t accept it unless it was over that amount, so we got a black and tan ice cream sandwich.  It was heavenly!  Bottom layer:  a chocolate no-bake cookie.  Next:  a scoop of ice cream.  Top layer:  a peanut butter no-bake cookie.  All drizzled with chocolate sauce.

I clearly have not mastered the art of food photography in dark lighting.  Anyone have any tricks of the trade?

Alright, this girl needs some sleep!  I’m up far later than I should be since I have to be up at 4:00 am!  Who was the genius that booked a flight for 5:55 in the freaking morning?!  Oh wait, that was me.

Talk to y’all from the nation’s Capital!  I’m Washington DC bound in just a few short hours!

Good luck on the half-marathon! I used to live in DC, and all the bloggers that are traveling there this weekend are making me nostalgic! Hope you enjoy the city!

That ice cream sandwich looks insanely good – even in bad lighting 🙂

So excited for you for the half marathon! I’m sure you’ll rock it – and don’t worry about the run today, its good to listen to your body and not overdo it before a race!
