the first oberon of the season.

So, in case my rambling in my post earlier in the day wasn’t enough to show how stoked I was about the Oberon release day for 2011, I wasted no time on Twitter.

What can I say, I really like the stuff.

So, when I already had plans to have dinner with my friend Elizabeth, it only made sense to go to the restaurant that was having an Oberon release party.  Thus, Rockwell-Republic it was.  Jacqueline and Sara tagged along, too.  I piqued their interest with the simple mention of Oberon.  This stuff is a big deal around West Michigan, it’s no joke!

I wasted no time ordering my glass!  It came sans the orange slice that completes the drink.  Sadface.  But not too long, because we had the waitress bring some slices.  Happyface!

At one point, one of the staff brought Oberon stickers for the table, along with a bottle opening/keychain.  In the brief moment where I was thinking he was going to give each of us a set, Jacqueline snatched up the keychain.

Apparently the 5 year old in me came out because I was not leaving until I had a keychain too!  I finally got one.  Happyface, part two!

Rockwell-Republic has some really great sushi which is what I wanted but I was pretty hungry, so I knew it wouldn’t be nearly enough food.  Instead, I got the mac and cheese that they make with a smoked cheddar.  Despite eating it one shell at a time to make it last, this was not filling either.

Elizabeth and I decided to split the banana bread crunch for dessert which included peanut butter cheesecake in the description.  Sold. We were thinking it was going to be something very different than it actually turned out to be.  I think we both had visions of a layer of banana bread and a substantial layer of cheesecake.

Slightly disappointing, but I had the one thing I truly wanted, which was Oberon.  Okay, the two things I wanted because I got to catch up with Elizabeth, who I haven’t seen in several months.  Despite the dessert let-down, it was a lovely night!
