the countdown is on.

The countdown is on, my friends!  Less than 72 hours until I hop on a plane bound for Washington DC!  I’m getting really excited/nervous/anxious about the National Half Marathon!  Having Saturday’s 5k go far better than I hoped gave me a confidence boost, for sure, but that 10 additional miles is still a bit daunting.  I say this despite the fact that I did an even longer race last year.  Long distances will always be a big deal for me, I think!

I’m trying to eat up the food I have and not buy any groceries before I head out of town.  I know I’m only gone for all of like 60 hours, but no since in letting perfectly good produce sit around if I don’t have to!

In looking ahead to Saturday, I’m also trying to up my water intake (which has been ridiculously low as of late), minimal processed foods, a few more carbs every day, and extra sleep!

For dinner, I ate up the rest of my couscous salad over a bed of spinach leaves, drizzled with a roasted garlic dressing.

I made some sweet potato chips on the side, seasoned with chili pepper and cinnamon.  Right before I broiled them for the last 5 or so minutes, I sprinkled on a bit of turbinado sugar (Sugar in the Raw brand) over the whole batch.  The caramelized sugar really brought out the sweetness in the sweet potatoes!  I could eat these every single day.

My roommates went out to a movie last night – I contemplated going with them, but was more in the mood for a quiet night around the house.  The big task of the night was updating my operating system – my Mac was definitely outdated, so it’s now running on a bit more current system.  I’m really hoping that it helps since it was starting to get a bit slow.  The upgrade ate up some of the room on my hard drive, though, so tonight’s task is figuring out how to get the old stuff off.  I’m not nearly as technologically inclined as I’d like to think.

I may have skipped the movie, but I still got some of the fun of the outing – they brought me back one of my favorite treats in the whole world:  movie theater popcorn!  Nom nom.  It was the perfect late night snack!  Thanks ladies!! 🙂

I woke up this morning with a migraine/sinus headache combination that hit me really, really hard.  Usually, some Excedrin and a couple hours of sleep are enough to get me feeling back to normal.  It was almost noon before I finally got moving and I still don’t feel 100% myself.

I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on my way out the door.  I really didn’t want to eat anything, but I knew it was important to get some kind of food in me.  I also stopped at Starbucks for caffeine:  by far, one of the things for a migraine!

I’m debating if it’s a wise idea to run after work.  On the pro side:  I’ve got a half marathon in four days, I won’t have time tomorrow, and the clock is ticking.  On the con side:  running with a migraine seems like a recipe for disaster.  Ultimately, I think I’ll attempt it and see how things go from there.  Good idea?  I’m not so sure.
