the best hummus ever.

Despite being completely sound asleep before 10 pm last night, I was still completely exhausted this morning.  I made for a rough go of things getting out the door.  I apologize retrospectively to the overly friendly lady at Starbucks who would not stop talking to me.  I just was not having it, at all.  I may have been rude in response.

Anyways, breakfast was Starbucks iced macchiato and a Perfect Foods Bar, both on the go.  I discovered one reason why they say to keep the Perfect Foods Bars refrigerated; it sat in my bag for awhile and was super crumbly and messy by the time I actually ate it.

My sister, Kris, and one of her kids met up with me for lunch this afternoon.  A quick, inexpensive, kid-friendly, nearby restaurant?  Jimmy John’s it is.  Aww, shucks.  😉

I’ve had Evan’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Dessert Hummus tucked away in the back of my mind since he posted it back in January.  As I was pursuing the cupboards trying to figure out dinner tonight, I saw a can of chickpeas and knew today was the day to finally make it.

But first, let’s break out a bottle of Abita Turbodog.

Okay, now it’s time for making some dessert hummus.

Why did I wait so long?! This stuff is ridic.  Seriously.

I made a couple additions to the original recipe:

  • I added 1 tbsp. each of flaxseed meal, chia seeds, and Hershey’s Dark Chocolate cocoa powder
  • I used an entire can of chickpeas (≈3.5 cups)…because I can’t read, apparently.

Even with almost twice as many chickpeas as necessary, it still tasted awesome!  Particularly when eaten with some fresh Michigan strawberries (just another thing that makes Michigan Awesome).

I resisted the urge to eat the entire bowl of hummus and stopped to make something slightly more nutritious and filling to round out dinner.  Yep, that’s right, I started with dessert hummus.  There were strawberries.  That makes it okay.

An egg and cheese sandwich, anyone?

Okay, time to go resist the siren’s call of the dessert hummus.  Maybe.

I am honored for the title.
I was actually just thinking about this today, because I was trying to remember what happened to all the chickpeas I cooked up last month and realized I made most of them into dessert hummus. Guess I’ll need to cook more.
