sushi kuni.

in Grand Rapids Dinner Club

I’ll be honest, I was excited for tonight’s dinner club for the fact that the restaurant name was really fun to say:  Sushi Kuni.  Well, I was entertained by it, but then again, I’m often easily amused!

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m perhaps not the best person to write a review of a sushi restaurant since, well, I don’t eat fish and there are only so many vegetarian options on the menu.  The biggest thing is definitely that while I do enjoy sushi when I have it, that’s generally more the exception than the rule.  It’s a food I really have to be craving to think of going out for it.  Or, in this case, it’s someone else’s turn to pick the dinner club location and she picks a sushi joint.  That works too!  😉

The other girls all started off with an appetizer of edamame, which often I love, but there was something about it that just did not sound appealing tonight.  I think it was the scent, perhaps?  I can’t smell much these days, but that got to me.

For my meal, I ordered an avocado roll and a cucumber roll.

I liked the avocado roll much more than the cucumber.  The cucumber had very little flavor or texture to it, especially compared to the avocado.  They had one with shiitake mushrooms that I think I’d try instead of the cucumber; one of the other girls had that one and really liked it.

Overall, it was a good dining experience.  The service wasn’t 100% top notch, but it wasn’t terrible either.  I’m no sushi connoisseur, by any means, but I’d go again!

Oh, and there may have been three of these amazing cookies from Marge’s Doughnut Den (love!!!) consumed throughout the course of the afternoon.

I love when there’s leftovers from work events.  It makes my heart belly happy.

I think that sweet potato roll is absolutely hands down the BEST vegetarian sushi ever! Look for it next time!

I love Sushi Kuni! That’s RIGHT by my apartment! I can see how options would be limited though if you’re a vegetarian..those rolls do look kind of blah. haha
