starting the holiday weekend early.

I kicked off the holiday weekend early because I took today off and I’m so very glad I did!  I was exhausted after being out late for the NKOTBSB concert last night, but more so, it was nice to have a day to get a few things done and just bum around the house.  I had a bunch of laundry to take care of and other things to get done before heading north for the Bayshore 10k tomorrow.

One of the perks of not having to rush around in the morning getting ready for work is that there’s extra time to make a great breakfast:  single serve apple crisp!  I added a little vanilla and nutmeg to the crisp topping and some pecans in with the apples, and it was extra tasty!

Yum!  It was a little taste of fall just before the unofficial beginning of summer!  I’m certainly not ready for fall, but I do love all the flavors that come with the season!

Lunch was carb-loading time:  pasta with tomato basil sauce, olives, and a bit of mozzarella cheese, and garlic toast (on a Bagel Thin).

Not long after lunch, it was time to head out to my dad and stepmom’s house.  They’re traveling with me this weekend up to Traverse City and we left from their house.  It felt like the longest car ride ever!  I can go for hours when I’m driving, but I get so antsy being the passenger, especially when I’m in the backseat.  I tried dozing off for awhile but it just wasn’t happening.

About halfway up, we stoppe for dinner at Big Boy.  I hit up the salad bar!  I had a plate of salad, a small serving of macaroni salad (which was quite underwhelming), and fruit.

I stole a piece of cornbread from my dad, too.  I forgot how much I love that stuff!

As we were getting back out on the road, I realized that my headphones were still in my car…which would have been fine, had we taken my car.  We made an emergency detour through Meijer once we got into Traverse City.  I vary rarely run without music and a race day is not when I want to try it out!  By the time we got up there, I was beyond antsy and just ready to get out of the car.  We’re finally at the hotel and I’ve got all my race stuff set out for the morning.  The playlist is ready, the electronics are charged, I’m ready to go for my third race of the month!  But first, I’m ready to crash into bed – traveling makes me tired!

Do you prefer to be the driver or a passenger on road trips?
