starting physical therapy.

I was pretty convinced that my lunch wouldn’t tide me over, but it did surprisingly well!  I had a snack about an hour before heading out of work more because I knew I needed the sustenance before heading to the gym.

Peanut butter toast?  Always a win.  Especially when I’ve got an almost empty jar to finishing off and be turned into a jar of overnight oats in a jar!  But, another breakfast for another day because I’m not quite there yet.

Just because who needs just another picture of toast…

My coworkers must think I’m so weird.

After work, I headed out for my first physical therapy appointment to get answers on my knee.  After getting zero answers from the MRI, I was banking on something from this.  Honestly, I was a bit nervous about what they’d have to say.  My worst fear was that running was no longer an option.

Fortunately, my worst fear didn’t come true!  He told me two things:  first, I have patellofemoral pain syndrome also known as runner’s knee, which basically means my patella (kneecap) doesn’t stay where it’s supposed to, likely because all of the muscles and ligaments around it are weak; second, my muscles from my knee up through my lower core are all weak and need a lot of strengthening.

The solution is to do physical therapy twice a week for a month.  He set me up with some exercises I can do on my own in between those sessions.  The other big thing I can do is continue cross and strength training.

I can’t begin to tell you how awesome it feels to finally have answers!

After my session, I hit up the stationary bike and did 8.0 miles in 34:26 in the cross country mode.  The bike was always something I tended to avoid because it was so hard in my quads, but now knowing about my weak muscles, it makes so much more sense!  Rather than avoiding the bike, I’m now forcing myself to take it head on at least once a week.  I hope it will help!

I was feeling indecisive for dinner, largely because it’s so hot outside!  It’s predicted to be the hottest week in Grand Rapids since 1988!  I ended up having a veggie wrap, strawberries, and pretzels with Mrs. Dogs Disappearing Mustard (this stuff is wicked good!).

All paired with a lovely glass of white wine!

Minus a slight crisis mode moment this afternoon, it was all around not too bad for a Monday!

1/3 cup each vanilla Chobani, almond milk (or whatever milk of your choosing), and rolled oats, plus 2 tbsp chia seeds OR, 2/3 cup almond milk, 1/3 cup milk, 2 tbsp chia seeds. Beyond that, get creative! Cacao nibs, cinnamon chips, vanilla extract are a few of my favorite add ins!

So glad about the physical therapy/knee news! Good luck with the heat – it’s pretty bad here in Madison too :(.
