sickness and soccer and spartan football.

Hey there!

So, it’s been almost a week since I’ve blogged.  Life has been crazy busy, I finally succumbed to the cold I’ve been fighting off for a week, and I’ve just been all around exhausted.

Blogging has really not been on the top of my priority list.  Sleep?  Yes.  Writing?  Not so much.

I took a sick day yesterday and it was much needed.  My throat felt like it was full of knives, it hurt so much to swallow.  Today it’s subsided a bit.  Now, it feels more like a Brillo pad.  We’re making progress!  I slept until almost 2 in the afternoon yesterday and was back in bed before 11.  Clearly, I needed the sleep.  My weekend was equally full of sleep although more in nap form – Friday, I slept for over two hours after work and  Sunday afternoon was the same.

And yet, I’m still exhausted.  Not in the “I got too much sleep” kind of way, because I’ve been there, done that.  No, I’m just plain tired in the can’t get enough sleep kind of way.

The highlight of my days during this mini-hiatus was definitely, hands down, without a doubt, Saturday.

I started by heading to Battle Creek for my niece, Emma’s, soccer game.

I was a proud, proud aunt.  Emma is fierce out on the field!

She scored the only goal of the game for her team!  I, naturally, got tears in my eyes almost immediately.  Her team ultimately lost, but they put up a good fight!

Not long after the game, I headed back to Grand Rapids only to then head to East Lansing for my first ever Big Ten football game to watch the Michigan State Spartans take on the Wisconsin Badgers!

The best part was that my dear friend Kayla was able to come with me!  She and her husband are moving to Illinois later this week, so I was grateful for one last chance to hang out before they leave the Mitten.

I had such a blast cheering and yelling and screaming at the game!

Spartans all the way, baby!

And what a game it was!  Both teams played an amazing game, but the Spartans pulled out a last second, 43 yard touchtown to win the game!

Saturday was really all I’ve got that’s anything remotely close to exciting.  Now, hopefully life can settle back down and get back to my normal pace!

What a great game to see! I was attempting to fall asleep the night before my 10K with my husband hooting and hollering about the game. And stressing big time! I am a Spartan fan by marriage and we went to a game earlier in the season. We’ve tailgated a lot but this game was the first one I went into the stadium for. Always fun!

I hope your throat is down to terry cloth or baby’s butt softness soon! 🙂

What a freaking incredible game to be your first big 10 game. I am an MSU student and have been to all the home games since ’08 and I have to say that was by far the most amazing game I have ever been to, ever watched in general actually. It will definitely be one of those games that is remembered in college football history!

I hope your throat is feeling better ASAP!!! The first sign of me getting sick is wanting to take a nap or sleeping in. It’s all downhill after that…

Hope you are feeling a lot better now! The colds that persist are just the worst. Glad you enjoyed the football game though :).
