in Grand Rapids

It’s been a fabulous day!  I had given my mom tickets for her and I to see Bill Cosby; the show was this afternoon, so she came into town a bit early so we could have lunch beforehard.

We did almost have to make a trip back to my hometown because she realized her ticket was still sitting on the kitchen counter.  Fortunately, I got in touch with Ticketmaster’s customer service and they had replacements waiting at will call.  Whew!  Close call.

Since we avoided that extra trip, we had time to sit down for lunch.  I took her to Brick Road Pizza where we shared some cheesy breadsticks and a deep dish veggie pizza.  We devoured the breadsticks in the 45 minute wait for the deep dish.

After lunch, we headed to downtown Grand Rapids to see Bill Cosby at LaughFest, a 10 day comedy festival to both celebrate the 10th anniversary of the local Gilda’s Club chapter, but also as a fundraiser.  They brought in some awesome comedians for the festival – Mike Birbiglia, Margaret Cho, Betty White, and others.  Freaking awesome lineup!

Bill was absolutely hilarious!  He talked for over two hours and the time just flew by!  He talked about the Bible, marriage, shared lots of stories of his childhood and just cracked everyone up!  Okay, he cracked me and my mom up.

Hello Friend/Ennis William Cosby Foundation is the foundation he and his wife set up in 1997 after his son was killed.  It supports children with learning disabilities.  From what I was told by a co-worker, he wears a Hello Friend sweatshirt at all of his shows.  I remember being so sad for Bill when he son was killed – I grew up watching The Cosby Show and the Huxtables felt like family!

Thanks mom, for making the trip over to Grand Rapids!  I loved spending the day with you!  Happy birthday!

I LOVE live comedy . . . mostly because it’s my long lost dream to become a stand up comedienne 😉
