running plans.

I’ve been working hard as of late to figure out my running plans for 2012.  Since the marathon wasn’t in the cards for this year, I am completely determined to cross that finish line next October.  At the bare minimum, I have a very rough plan for my long runs through the marathon figured out.  Obviously, I’m completely prepared to change my plans as necessary.

I’ve also got a few races in mind beyond the marathon, including a couple 5Ks, a 10K, and a 25K.  I’d really like to find a half marathon leading up to the marathon (mid-August or early September, ideally), to get an idea of where I’m at looking ahead towards October.  Adding in a half marathon before the 25K wouldn’t be so bad either.

2012 will be my marathon year.  I have my heart and mind, every ounce of my being, set on it.

The afternoon flew by.  Suddenly, it was time to head out for the day!  I never got more food in me after a pretty sparse lunch, so I downed a spoonful of peanut butter on my way out the door.  I hopped on the bike for a quick 5.0 miles and walked for a mile on the treadmill before Zumba.

I was so frustrated at Zumba – it felt practically like my first class ever.  In an hour’s worth of music, all but 3 or 4 routines were brand new to me!  I stuck with it, but didn’t feel like I got as great of a workout as that class usually gives me.

Dinner was a bit too chilly for me.  I really craved a smoothie.  So that’s what I did and I was shivering by the end!

1 cup orange juice
1 cup mixed tropical fruit
a handful of spinach
a scoop of vanilla protein powder
a teaspoon of xantham gum

It makes for one very tart but delicious smoothie!

I’ve never really been a tea drinker, but I’ve been super into it lately!

I picked up this cinnamon apple spice tea last night and I’m loving it!  A perfect fall flavor!

Runners, how far ahead do you think about races?

I like to think pretty far ahead for races too– I’m thinking definitely RBR 25K, Bayshore Marathon again and either GR or Detroit Marathon– pending everything holds up! Given all of the injuries that have cropped up since my last marathon, I’m really nervous about training again/getting my hopes up for a big race. here’s hoping!

I can totally relate – I’m just now getting back to running and I’m worried how my knee will hold up. I want so badly to do the marathon, but there’s a part of me that just doesn’t know if that kind of distance will ever work. I’m gonna give it my best shot though!

Hi Mindy!
It looks like we’ll be at a lot of the same races next year! 🙂 In fact, I’m pretty sure I saw you at a few races this year… Resolution Run? Heart & Sole 5k?
Always nice to find another GR runner/blogger! Good luck with your training!

Hey Jennie! I was in fact at both of those races! And, ditto, it’s always nice to find other runners/bloggers around GR! 🙂
