Sisterhood Everlasting is the fifth and final book in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares.  I’ll be honest and admit that I haven’t actually read the first four books.  I’ve seen (and loved) the movies, but never got around to picking up the books.

It tells the story of Lena, Bridget (Bee), Carmen, and Tibby on the cusp of turning thirty.  No longer the young girls when the series began, the four are now well into adulthood and in many respects, have gone their separate ways in life.  They live scattered throughout the world:  Lena in Providence, Rhode Island, Bee in San Francisco, Carmen in New York, and Tibby in Australia.  Time and distance has taken its toll on the sisterhood.

Out of the blue, Tibby sends each of the girls a plane ticket to reunite in Santorini, a Greek island where they had traveled together before.  It’s the island where Lena met her first love, Kostos, and the island where the sisterhood has so much shared history.  (This was alluded to throughout the book, but I think this is one of those points where having read the rest of the series would have been helpful.)

When the girls reunite in Greece, all seems well until an unseemly tragedy strikes, pushing each of the sisterhood to figure out what they really want out of life.

I quickly got wrapped up in the book, and didn’t want to put it down until I found out how the stories end.  My heart broke as the girls struggled to make sense of the events in Santorini and move on with their lives.  Although it definitely wraps up a little too cleanly, I really enjoyed Sisterhood Everlasting and now that I’ve read the last book of the series, I can’t wait to go back and read the first four!

I think I’ve read three out of four of those books. The third one was really hard to get in to, but the first two were pretty spectacular. I’m glad she wrote a fifth one; I’ll have to check it out. Its not often you get to see characters you’ve grown up with, grow up with you, especially to that sort of “age”. It’ll be like meeting up with old friends… which according to your description is exactly what happens!

Okay, I’m new to your blog and just stumbled onto it, because I am planning a blog post on this book as well. I am interested to see what you think of the books after having read this one. I don’t feel this book was necessary. The ending of the fourth book was just like the ending to this book. Wrapping up “too clean” as you put it. At least that’s how I remember it. I didn’t really see the need for this final book and quite frankly, I was not happy about it. I was a huge fan of the series, though. In response to the first comment, the third book was by far my favorite of the four first books. Interesting perspectives. I think Ann Brashares in a great writer and I really enjoy all her books have to offer.

Hi Sharlee! Thanks for commenting! :)
Sadly, I think they were just milking the franchise for a little extra money since there are so many fans.
