red velvet ice cream.

I had planned on walking to grab a salad for lunch, but when push came to shove, I had no ambition to venture out when it came time.  Instead, I relied on what I had around my desk:  Frosted Mini-Wheats and peanut butter and honey toast.

Thanks to everyone who suggested microwaving honey to get rid of the crystallization – it worked like a charm!

After work, I headed out to the Y.  For my strength training, I stuck to the machines instead of using the free weights.  I fully believe that free weights are better, but I was really wanting to mix it up.  I went a little lighter than I probably needed to, but for my first time using the majority of the machines, I wanted to focus more on doing it well rather than upping the weights.

  • Row 30 lb, 12 reps x 3 sets
  • Lat pull, 30 lb, 12 x 3
  • Overhead press, 15 lb, 12 x 3
  • Chest press, 15 lb, 12 x 3
  • Arm extension, 15 lb, 12 x 3
  • Arm (bicep) curl, 15 lb, 12 x 3

I’m pretty certain I wasn’t using the arm extension machine correctly because it was making my elbow hurt like crazy.  Not in the I’m working hard sense, but in the I feel like my arm is going to snap off sense.

I went to Zumba and was having a great time.  Until about halfway through the class when I got that I need to eat right now or I’m going to pass out feeling.  We were in the middle of a song and I was getting light headed, having a hard time focusing my eyes, the whole deal.  As soon as that song was done, I cut out early…and almost fell face first down a flight of stairs going to the locker room.

Within minutes of walking in the house, I got to work making dinner.  I used up the remains of the tempeh taco filling and made another round of nachos.  Partly because it sounded good, but mostly because I wanted to get some things out of the fridge before I head out of town for Memorial Day weekend.

Speaking of this coming weekend, I’m heading north to Traverse City with my dad and stepmom.  I’m running a 10k and they’re coming along to spectate!  I’m excited for some of my family to experience the fun of race day, plus visit a new place!  Everyone raves about Traverse City and even though it’s only a few hours away, I’ve never actually been there!  It should be fun!

My roommate, Sara, and I took a walk to Jersey Junction for some ice cream!  We figured that not only is it a beautiful night, but if we walked then a big ice cream cone wouldn’t seemed so bad!  At about 2.1 miles each way, it felt like a solid effort; plus it made me not feel so bad about cutting out of Zumba early.

I was super excited that they had red velvet ice cream!  My love for red velvet cake is no secret, so I just had to try this flavor!

The verdict?  So freaking good!  Holy yum, so good.  I wanted to take a bath in that stuff!  Okay, not really.  But, I loved it and will definitely get some again!

Yay, you’re going to love TC!! Too bad it won’t be warm enough to swim in the bay or anything like that, but I hope the weather’s nice! Good luck in the 10K!

holy COW that red velvet looks good! I’m trying to eat down my pantry before Bayshore too and I’m already gettin to slim pickins. Can’t wait!!
