Today was a first. I posted my very first Operation Beautiful note!

I hope it brightened someone’s day!

I think what Caitlin is doing with Operation Beautiful is completely epic. Like most women, I struggle with my self-image. This was especially true when I was overweight. I didn’t see myself as beautiful. Not even close.

If I’m being completely honest, it’s probably only in the past year that I’ve been able to see appearance in a positive light. I know that losing weight was a big part of that change, but I think more than anything, it was forcing myself to stop the negative thoughts.

There are still things about myself that I would change if I could. But, I’m learning to take those aspects and find something positive about it.

My hips are wide, but when I have babies, I’ll be grateful.

My thighs are big, but they are strong. They help get me through long runs and to the finish line at races.

Despite the things I might not like, I am learning to see that I am beautiful.

I think that we can’t expect anybody else to see us as beautiful until we learn to see ourselves as such.

I respect someone like Jessica Simpson for wearing no makeup during a recent Marie Claire photoshoot. I think she looked absolutely gorgeous in those photos. I think it’s a huge statement in image-centered Hollywood for her to do something like that. In her recent show, The Price of Beauty, the theme song “Who We Are” is exactly how I am learning to see myself.

Who we are, who we are, who we are
Who we are, who we are, who we are

I have to take control, so much is left untold
Trying to find myself, at times its hard to know
Who we are, we are, we are

Words can cut so deep, weighing down on me
Time and time I see, how vicious the world can be
Who we are, we are, we are

We’re beautiful, our flaws and all, they’re beautiful to me
It’s who we are, who we are, it’s who we’re meant to be

We’re beautiful, our flaws and all, they’re beautiful to me
It’s who we are, who we are, it’s who we’re meant to be
Now never change a thing

We all have broken days, to paint it on our face
It gets too much to fake, and we wanna hide away
Who we are, we are, we are

Inside, inside

We’re beautiful, our flaws and all, they’re beautiful to me
It’s who we are, it’s who we are, it’s who we’re meant to be
Now never change a thing

You’ve got to be you for yourself
‘Cause you’re like nobody else
Who you are, you are, you are, you are, yeah

Our flaws and all, they’re beautiful to me
It’s who we are, it’s who we are, it’s who we’re meant to be

We’re beautiful, our flaws and all, they’re beautiful to me
It’s who we are, who we are, it’s who we’re meant to be
Now never change a thing

Who we are, who we are, who we are
Who we are, who we are, who we are
Who we are, who we are, who we are
