nobody but me.

If you haven’t been able to tell, I’ve been seriously slacking in the healthy living part of my life since the half marathon three weeks ago.  It started out with my knee hurting and then snowballed into one “reason” (aka excuse) after another.

But, after watching Soul Surfer last night and seeing how much Bethany can do with one arm was really a reminder that nobody but me is stopping me from working hard and doing by best.  Don’t get me wrong, I know I couldn’t run when my knee was sore.  I know that would have made it worse.  But, I could have still focused on upper body strength training, even some lighter yoga.  And, it certainly didn’t mean that I had to let my eating habits fall to the wayside.

People can do whatever they want if they just set their heart to it, and just never give up, and just go out there and do it.

Here’s the thing I’ve found to be true for me.  Once I’m in the routine of eating well and exercising regularly, it’s fairly easy to stay there.  But, on the flip side of that, if I fall off the healthy living wagon for one day, it’s also fairly easy to let that turn into two or three…or three weeks.

After years and years of being on the unhealthy side of things, it’s so easy to fall back into old habits.  This isn’t the first time it’s happened since I started my blog (or before I started it) and it probably won’t be the last, if I’m being honest with myself.

But, I know how much better I feel when I’m active and eating well.  I have more energy, I sleep better, I’m happier, my skin is clearer…I could go on and on.

Tonight, I’m going to stock up on quality, wholesome foods for the week.  I’m going to do a better job at preparing lunches the night before so I don’t have an excuse at work.

In the past three weeks since the race, I’ve worked out all of two times (yoga once and Zumba/strength training once).  I have less than three weeks until a 10K, with a 25K the week after that.  I don’t just want to get back into the exercise routine, I need to.  It’s go time, people.  I have a training plan, I need to actually stick with it.  Here’s what’s on the agenda for this week:

  • Sunday:  yoga
  • Monday:  Zumba + strength
  • Tuesday:  4 miles
  • Wednesday:  3 miles
  • Thursday:  4 miles
  • Friday:  rest
  • Saturday:  12 miles {tentative distance}

So, here’s where I need you to come in – hold me accountable!  Tweet me, email me, leave a comment, anything!

Now, all that being said…let’s talk about breakfast, for a hot minute.  I took Sarah to IHOP after church and we both had the CINN-a-stack pancakes.  Pancakes layered with cinnamon roll filling and topped with icing and whipped cream?  Yes, please.

Not quite the epitome of nutrition or healthy living, but they were damn good.

Now time to make a shopping list…with you know, fruits and vegetables and whole grains.

This is a great post, Mindy! We all fall off the bandwagon here and there, but what’s important to remember is that we control our own destiny, and what we want to do for ourselves, we can achieve.

Have fun this week with running again! Make sure to take it easy if your knee acts up– you’re packing a lot of mileage back on!

I could not agree more! I know that when I am exercising and eating right regularly its not hard to keep it going, something happens and I miss some workouts and all of a sudden its a week later and I have barely worked out and started eating anything and everything no matter how unhealthy!

I have been following your blog a bit since I realized you lived in Michigan (I currently am at MSU!) and I been meaning to comment and I finally had to cause I couldn’t agree more with this post! I also wanted to say a quick (and very belated) congratulations on the National Half Marathon!

I’ve been slacking in the running department lately, and I’m doing that 10K next month so I really need to step it up!

I’m so with you, hon. I easily fall into bad habits because of this or that. I’m glad for friends like you, though, to help me keep my head on straight. We’re both gonna kick the next month’s ass and ninja kick RBR to Timbuktu. 😉 We got this, chica.
