Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
[Martin Luther King Jr.]
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! For those that got the day off, I hope you’re enjoying it! For those that didn’t, I feel your pain!
Did you watch the Golden Globes last night? I saw most of the first couple hours then got a bit bored with it. My two favorite shows on television these days did so well! I was absolutely thrilled to see Chris Colfer win Best Supporting Actor for Glee. The kid has got epic talent and he is such an asset to the cast. Not surprisingly, I was happy that Jane Lynch won for Supporting Actress and the show won Best Comedy. I was also really, really happy to see Jim Parsons win Best Actor for the role of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory.
I enjoyed a brew from Founders, my favorite local brewery, while watching the show.
It was the return of the baked apple oats this morning. Although, I don’t know how much you can truly consider it a “return” when it’s probably only been a week since I’ve had them. Still, I was excited. I used an apple, vanilla Chobani, rolled oats, and cinnamon chips.
Normally this kind of breakfast holds me over until lunch. Not today! I was hungry again by like 9:30! And not the oh, I’m kind of hungry but I could wait hunger, but the seriously, I need to eat something right now or I might chew my arm off hunger. Okay, that’s perhaps a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea. Thank God for the food drawer at my desk! I slathered some almond butter on an Arnold’s Sandwich Thin and it was just the thing I needed.
My sister, Nicki (the one that I spent time with this weekend), called me late afternoon and said they were on their way back through Grand Rapids. Did I want to join them for lunch? Since I’ve long since determined I have completely bombed out at the Eat in Month Challenge, I was totally up for the offer.
We went to the Ottawa Tavern for a quick(ish) bite. I had a portabella burger on a pretzel bun. It was topped with a pesto aioli, lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, green olives, and jalapeños. Along with some highly addictive fries.
The unfortunate part of the lunch was that they were on their way home early because Emma has what they’re suspecting is strep throat. I’m really hoping I didn’t catch it from her since we hung out so much this weekend. Time to pull out all the stops to stay healthy!
Did you get today as a holiday day?
