ninety.

Happy 90th birthday to my beautiful grandma!

She’s a classy and sassy lady, with bright eyes and a big heart.  My grandpa passed away unexpectedly when my mom was a little girl, so she raised her two kids on her own.  She went to Junior College in a time when that was not the norm for women.  I have vivid and beloved memories from my childhood of time spent at her home, everything from playing cards around the dining room table to running through the sprinklers in her backyard on a hot summer day.

At 90, she’s still so healthy and active.  She lives on her own and still drives, she regularly attends an exercise class (think “Sit and Be Fit” type stuff).  She’s a voracious reader (a love that I definitely share!), dominates the crossword puzzle, eats dinner with one of her best friends almost every night, and adores her family including two kids, five grandkids, and five (soon to be six) great-grandkids, plus many, many in-laws.

She is such an inspiration in my life and I hope I can be half the woman she is as I age.  I love you, Grandma!

breakfast.

I kept it lazy simple and easy this morning:  just some Kashi.  Partially because I was in a hurry, but mostly because I didn’t want a big filling breakfast.

I know, I know…breakfast is supposed to be filling.  But, not when there’s an office birthday celebration on the horizon!  Wouldn’t it be funny if we were celebrating my grandma’s birthday?  Not quite.  The head of my department’s birthday is Saturday, but today was the only day we’d all be around, so we celebrated today!  We had chocolate covered strawberries this go around!  I ended up having three and they were so good!  The perfect blend of chocolate and fruit.

Like any birthday celebration in my department, there was also a birthday toy!  For today, it was Play-Doh!  I immediately went for the pink jar.

And by went for, I mean I set them up so that the pink would be closest to where I was sitting and thus within an easy arm’s reach.

lunch.

I almost walked out of the house without my lunch again today!  Fortunately, I remembered this time!  I had the rest of the pumpkin ravioli I made last week.

It probably would have been better if it wasn’t a week later, but it was still really tasty.  You just can’t go wrong with pumpkin.

Amy, Kayla, Andi, and I got into a big discussion about books on Twitter this morning!  It was really fun and we decided to start a virtual book club!  I heart books.

Have you ever been part of a book club?  What should we read first?

It’s amazing to me (well I guess not so much when you consider we grew up in the same house) that all the things you said about J.B. (Jean Bean to me…)were the way I feel in my heart. Tears welled up in my eyes when I started to think about how someday if I could even be half the woman she and mom are. I am in awe of the strength they both possess. The role models we have to model ourselves against…lucky women.
