my kick the habit update.

At the beginning of August, I joined in on “Kick the Habit” month to focus on rejuvenating my faith and spending more time with God.

While I didn’t get quite where I wanted in that 31 days, it was a really great start into restoring the relationship that I so deeply need in my life.  I often say that my faith is the most important thing in my life, but my words and my lifestyle don’t always match up.

Last month, I was more intentional about spending time in prayer.  I didn’t touch my Bible at all.  Yet, it was a start and I’m continuously growing back into the relationship with God that I want, that I used to have.  I’m getting back into the Word, reading books on faith, and just all around making a stronger effort.  I feel a stronger sense of grace and peace, and a stronger presence of Him in my life.

It might be that the Kick the Habit month itself wasn’t quite all I had hoped for, but it was a great kickstart into where I’m at now.

I double fisted it walking into work today.  In one had, the cup of coffee I poured at home.  In the other, the latte I got at Biggby on my way to work.  The latter is what I really wanted, but there was a freshly brewed pot of coffee at the house I couldn’t let go to waste.  So, I did both!

How great are these B inspired coffee mugs?  Not that I need a new mug, but I really, really want this one!  Love it!

I had some Chobani for breakfast, topped with Bear Naked granola and blackberries on the brink of their last days.

I had a crazy productive morning (perhaps it was the ridiculous amount of coffee in my system?!)!  Much needed, especially after being out of the office so much last week.  I had very little appetite for lunch.  My stomach wasn’t super happy with me this morning, perhaps it was related?  I ended up having simple stuff:  a Luna bar and some peanut butter and honey toast.

I totally tweaked my knee at one point in the afternoon.  I was really tempted to use it as an excuse to skip a workout but I knew it was just that.  An excuse.  So, I put my crap excuses aside and got my sweat on.  I did 5.0 miles on the bike, alternating resistance between 4.0 and 8.0 for a minute each.  I finished up with walking for 1.0 mile (okay, there was a bit of running in there, too).  I took it slow and did most of it on an incline.  Major workout, that incline.

Dinner was a quick and easy (crazy big) salad beast, using up some stuff I had in the fridge.

Now, I’m re-watching the season 2 finale of Glee, enjoying a beer, and snacking on some jelly beans.  Yep, I definitely had a bag that I kept from Easter.  It’s a great little treat several months later, albeit slightly disturbing that they’re still completely edible.

Next week is the season 3 premiere of Glee and the series premier of Zooey Deschanel’s new show.  I know I’ve already said it, but I am ridiculously excited for that show.  I think she’s fantastic – so quirky and talented.  If I could befriend anyone in Hollywood, she’d likely be high on my list.

What celebrities would you want to befriend given the opportunity?

Did you know the pilot of ‘The New Girl’ in a free download on iTunes? You should check it out! It definitely looks quite promising!
