I want to be a morning person.

Alright dear friends…I need tips on how to become a morning person.  At the very least, how to learn not to hit my snooze button approximately 130 times before I finally get out of bed (putting my alarm on the other side of the room doesn’t do the trick for me).  And…go!

Seriously, mornings are a tough one for me.  For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a night owl and it’s something I so desperately want to break.  I hear people talk about how they develop that natural circadian rhythm and just naturally wake up at a particular time.  I don’t have that.  Unless you count 10 am as that natural wake up time.   I’m trying to do better about the getting closer to 8 hours of sleep that I need, but that’s really hard when you’re wide awake until well after midnight and your job starts at 8 am!

I ended up (unintentionally) not getting out of bed until after 7, so it was a hustle to get ready kind of morning.  I grabbed a bagel with cream cheese and coffee on the road before making into the office with a couple minutes to spare!

I was on Facebook today and one of the local country stations posted that on a promotional stop in Australia, Carrie Underwood said she recently went fully vegan.  Although it sounds like she did this transition because of a lactose intolerance, I love her commitment to animals.  Go Carrie!

It was an eating out kind of day.  Bagel for breakfast, Subway for lunch.  I am loving that they have avocado as an option now!  I like Jimmy John’s avocado better, though.

I bought my plane ticket to Philly for the Healthy Living Summit this afternoon!  I’m getting so excited!  I planned it to arrive mid-morning on Friday and depart late Sunday afternoon so there’s some extra time to explore the city.  Who wants to be touristy with me?!

I can’t wait to try subway’s avocado!
I have always been a morning person, but waking up extra early for morning workouts is still hard. Basically, the first day I suck it up and am exhausted (because I didn’t fall asleep early enough the night before). By that night, I’m so sleepy that I fall asleep nice and early, making the next day much easier.

I have so much trouble getting up early especially before the work day. I so want to be a morning exercise person but I have trouble with that. I’m sorry I won’t be at HLS! Boo! But if you make a detour to Lancaster, PA I can definitely meet up!

I think the key to being a morning person is getting to bed at a decent time. I am a morning person as long as I get enough sleep, but when I don’t get enough sleep, it goes quickly.

That’s unfortunately part of my problem, I think…even if I’m in bed by like 10, I’ll still lie there wide awake forEVER.

When going to school I would go back and forth from pouring cement in the summer (very early mornings) to tending bar in the winter. The first two weeks of the transition is always rough but with some pushing our rhythm changes pretty quick. Try this: set your alarm for 6:00 and get up and run 5 days in a row, without fail. If you start your day with that you’ll be whipped by 10 and sleeping soundly shortly thereafter. Hey you may even find yourself doing Sun Salutations as it’s rising!
