I am an athlete.

I was telling an old friend about all the distance races I’m doing this year and his response was that I’ve turned into quite an athlete.

At first, I kind of laughed that off.  Me, an athlete?  No!  But, the reality of it is that there is truth in what he said.  I am an athlete! No, I’m not the next Deena Kastor who will win Olympic golds or set records.  (Um, a marathon in under 2:20:00?  I’ll be thrilled if I finish my half marathon in that time, let alone a full!)

I don’t have to be the fastest or the best runner.  I get out there and do my best.  I run, thus I am a runner.  I am an athlete.

Words I never thought in my wildest dreams I’d attribute to myself, but I love that it’s true.

In other news, this athlete was a forgetful one this morning!  My camera is still sitting on the kitchen table, right where I left it.

Breakfast was another yogurt mess with vanilla Chobani, rolled oats, pecans, and blackberries.  Although it didn’t look quite like this since I had to dig for a recycled picture.

I shouldn’t have bothered eating at home because I knew someone was going to bring in pączki for Fat Tuesday, and sure enough not more than 10 minutes after thinking that at my desk, there they are.  I had half an apple and half bavarian cream.

Oh, the joys of the pre-Lenten season!

We had a tour group coming through my building today and I got recruited into leading a group at somewhat the last minute.  I had gotten an email about it Friday, but since I was gone I didn’t get it until yesterday and the person coordinating the group was gone yesterday.  It was confirmed about 15 minutes before the tour was set to start that I got the official word that I was giving one!

Seeing as how the last time I had to give an official tour of the building was back in September, I felt a bit rusty!  The group I was with seemed to enjoy themselves though!

By the time we were done, I was ready for lunch!  I put together a peanut butter and honey sandwich with red pepper, hummus, and cantaloupe.

It was such a great lunch!  The melon tasted so good!

And perhaps a second pączki for dessert…gotta take advantage of Fat Tuesday!  Haha, I swear it’s things like that were I think I should have my healthy living blogger title reneged.

Nope.  Sometimes indulgence is a good thing.

I love this post. I have to keep convincing myself that I am, in fact, an athlete–regardless of how many races I’ve run, how fast I run, how far I’ve run, how often I run…whatever! 🙂 Hope you’re having a good day! And thanks for the paczki preview; I’ve never had one (and I grew up Catholic in Milwaukee) and I think I’ll get one to split with Chris on my way home.

Mmm, I love pączki. Well, I am Polish so it makes complete sense. I’ve had 2 today 🙂
Are you giving anything up for Lent?
