healthy living summit ’11: tourist time.

If I’m being completely honest, I don’t really look forward to the Healthy Living Summit for the sessions.  Don’t get me wrong, there was a lot of useful information and it really reminded me why I love being a part of this little niche of the blogosphere.

I’m in it for the swag.

Okay that’s not true, although I am loving eating my way through the big bag of free stuff I carried home with me.  That’s pretty sweet.

No, the real reason I love attending HLS is the people.  The healthy living blogging community is, for the most part, a fantastic group of people that I’m proud to associate myself with.  It was fun seeing everyone all dressed up and lookin’ fancy at the cocktail party, but what was even better was to get out and explore Philadelphia with my blends (blogging friends).

There was silliness to be had in the photo booth.  I was clearly not ready for that last one.  Ah well.

Keelie and I each got ice cream sundaes as large as our faces at The Franklin Fountain.

Don’t judge.  I wasn’t going to let homemade ice cream and hot fudge that amazing go to waste!

Several of us ventured to the Liberty Bell (and almost got wet in a sudden downpour that stopped just as we were getting ready to go back outside).

We saw the LOVE statue aka the one thing I wanted to see more than anything else in the city!  Check!

We ran the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum, bringing out the Rocky in each of us.

And naturally, took the cliche pictures at the top!

We discovered amazing food, like the veggie Philly steak.  I would go back to Philadelphia just so I could eat this sandwich again.  Who knew mushrooms and seitan could be so good together?!

And, I got to know three amazing women rooming together for the weekend.

HLS reminds me, if nothing else, that I am so blessed to be a part of this community.  It has truly made my life so much richer, for the friends I’ve made and the opportunities it has presented me.  I was excited to return to my “real” life, but so very sad to leave the dear friends that this little community has given me.  I have made so many friends that I otherwise would never encounter, done things I might never have had the courage to step out of my comfort zone for, and learned so much.

If I learned (or at least was reminded of) one thing this weekend, it is that blogging has truly made my life better and for that, I am grateful.

Love your recaps from HLS. I so want to go next year!
My favorite part of conferences is the people too. I go to a lot for work purposes, and always set aside time to catch up with friends. I also like doing the tourist thing as well, although now I seem to be revisiting the same cities year after year (aka convention cities!)
