glee live tour 2011.

As much as I wanted to go, I really had no intentions of attending the Glee Live tour.  Tickets were expensive, none of the venues were super close, and none of the dates were exactly ideal.

Then comes the morning of June 13.  I know the tour arrives in Detroit that night and I, spur of the moment, checked Ticketmaster to see what I could pull up.  When a third row seat came up, I debated for about half a second and impulsively bought it.

I am so glad I did!  It was SUCH a fun show and I loved seeing the characters from one of my favorite television shows live and in person, singing the songs that have made the show what it is today.  I thought it was great that they stayed true to who they are on the show (aka Lea Michele was Rachel the whole night, Kevin McHale was Artie, etc.).

The show started with the song that started it all:  the whole cast on Don’t Stop Believin’.  The crowd erupted (not surprisingly) at the “….born and raised in south Detroit” line.

Next up was Tina and Mercedes on Dog Days are Over and the whole cast on Sing (both of which have actually become one of my favorite songs from this season!).

Mr. Shue came on screen to talk with Brittany S. Pierce, which lead into I’m a Slave for You by, of course, Britney Spears.  Dang, Heather Morris nails that whole routine.  The girl is definitely a dancer and looks freaking fantastic.

In a completely random segue, Puck did Fat Bottomed Girls, followed by Curt on I Wanna Hold Your Hand.  While Chris Colfer has, hands down, one of the standout voices on the show in my opinion, that song didn’t have quite the emotional impact that it did the episode he performed it on the show.  His dad was in the hospital, unconscious, and nobody knew if he would pull through.  Not quite the same as an arena full of screaming fans.

Artie came out next for Pretty Young Thing (PYT).  I have to say that Artie just might be my favorite character on the show.  I think Kevin McHale is just too freaking adorable and I love the sass he brings to the role.  Plus, he can sing and dance?  I’m sold.

The whole cast came back out for Born This Way.  On a semi-tangental note, I’ve shared this once already, but if you haven’t yet, please go read this amazing post Dianna Agron (Quinn) wrote after wearing a “Likes Girls” shirt during this song at one of their shows over the weekend.  It’s fantastically well-written and I love what she has to say.

Rachel sang Firework (yay Katy Perry!), which lead into a three song set (Teenage Dream, Silly Love Songs, Raise Your Glass) from The Warblers!!!  They sang primarily from the stage at the back of the arena and the catwalk/second stage (which was behind where I was sitting), so I very sadly couldn’t get any good pictures.  Major bummer.

After The Warblers, they did a segment of duets!  Rachel and Kurt (at the back of the arena) on the Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy mash-up and Mercedes and Santana on River Deep, Mountain High.

Normally, Sam and Quinn sing Lucky in this set, but for whatever reason, Dianna couldn’t be at the show.  I was so sad!  I’m a big fan of her (as a person, not so much catty Quinn).

Brittany, Blaine, and Kurt did a skit next, with Brittany trying to ask Blaine out and Kurt gets offended:  “are you trying to steal my man?”.  Kurt then has a proposal for Blaine and asks him to join New Directions (so, I wouldn’t be surprised if Blaine transfers to McKinley High in the next season….).

They wrapped up with Finn singing Jessie’s Girl (lurve), Santana and Brittany sining Valerie, and the whole cast coming out to finish with Loser Like Me.

In full Glee fashion, they even threw Slurpees at the crowd.  By Slurpees, I of course mean cups full of confetti and streamers!

But, it wouldn’t be a concert without an ENCORE!

Kurt and Tina did the Single Ladies dance from early on in the first season (leotards and all, it was epic!).  Then, my love Artie came back out for Safety Dance!!  I’m saying it again, the kid can dance like it’s nobody’s business.

The encore wrapped up with Empire State of Mind and Somebody to Love.

Just like that, it was all over!  I could not be happier I decided to look for a ticket and even more so, that I actually bought it!  The Glee Live tour was an absolute blasty and it made me love the television version even more than I already do!

The highlight was seeing these characters and hearing songs that I love from the show performed right in front of me!  Super fun!  The low points were that Dianna wasn’t there, for sure, but more so that for how many songs they’ve done on the show and how much the tickets cost, it was a really short performance.  Between the opening act and the cast, it was maybe two hours total.  I wish they would have added a few more songs to the concert (um, For Good!!!)

Here’s to Glee Live 2012!

Great pictures! I was there too! Lea Michele was hands down the best part.
I didn’t realize Dianna wasn’t there, I hope she’s okay. Overall a great concert!

Hi Sandy! Lea is amazing, isn’t she?! So much talent in that little tiny body. Glad to hear you enjoyed the concert!

JEALOUS. Looks like it was amazing!

Random fact of the day: Do you know how Heather Morris got the role of Brittany on Glee? She actually IS a professional dancer, not a singer. She was a dancer for Beyonce in the “Single Ladies” video/tour (not sure if it was one or the other, or both, but I know it was that song!) and the Glee people hired her to come in and teach the cast that dance for the season 1 episode it was featured on. They liked her so much they offered her a recurring role on the show. Pretty cool, no? That’s why she’s such an amazing dancer!

I did know that, actually! She danced for B on a couple tours and television appearances…but she was actually on So You Think You Can Dance before that, although didn’t make it into the top 20.
