family, friends, and art.

So I guess it’s been a few days since I’ve blogged.  It was a bit unintentional at times, but mostly completely the opposite.  I spent hardly any time in front of my computer, except to watch my Gilmore Girls DVDs.  Love, love, love that show.

I got some major bummer news on Thursday afternoon and found out my pastor is leaving our church.  I was am a bit heartbroken; he is a really big part of my journey.  I’ll miss him dearly, but I know that he’s going to do amazing things out in Los Angeles.  Still, it’s going to be a huge adjustment period as he transitions out.  He spoke this morning about what lead him to this point, what the future holds, and so on.  I shed some definite tears.

Although that news has been heavy on my heart, it’s ultimately been a busy yet restful weekend.  I had a big work event on Thursday night (aka I got paid to get super fancy dressed up, walk around, eat, and drink for three hours), but I took Friday off and it was lovely.  My sister Nicki came up to visit with her kids, and my other sister, Kris joined us all for lunch.

Emma and Max are silly kids…I love them so much!

We saw the movie Dolphin Tale as well.  Really cute film, although since it’s a kid-friendly movie, I think they probably would have been okay making it 15 or 20 minutes shorter.  But, with Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, and Harry Connick, Jr. it’s a phenomenal cast!

I’ve spent a vast majority of my time this weekend exploring just a bit of ArtPrize.  With almost 1,600 pieces of art spread throughout the city, it’s nearly impossible to see everything!  I haven’t seen anything that I found super incredible yet, but I’ve only made a small dent in what there is to see.

I saw some on Friday night with Andi, Kayla, and Karin (Kayla’s mom) on Friday night after we had dinner and a drink at Founders.  Jacqueline, Sarah, and I got caught in the rain on Saturday, but we saw a ton of stuff.

This one is really cool.

It might just look like a big painting of an eye, but look closer!  It’s made out of BBs!

There are still two more weeks to explore and see the art!  It’s such a great event for Grand Rapids, bringing people into the city.  This year, there seems to be a really big emphasis on sustainability and found art (making art out of trash, essentially).

I haven’t stumbled across anything that’s quite in the category of “wow, that should win” yet – but there’s still time. 😀

What was the highlight of your weekend?
