catching up.

Well it’s been awhile, eh?

Last week was my absolute busiest week of the year at work – I liken it to April 15 for accountants.  It was a stressful week to begin with and to top it off, Regina Phalanges (aka my car) more or less bit the dust.  I was driving home from work on Tuesday and I could go about three miles before it stalled out.  In all honest, she likely had some life left in her and this was an easy fix, but it was the last straw for me.

So rather than continuing to deal with it, I went car shopping!  It wasn’t so much car shopping, since I knew exactly what I wanted.  Saturday, my dad and I went to the dealership and I left with my new baby:  a 2012 Chevy Cruze!!!  Thanks to the awesome people at Todd Wenzel in Hudsonville for getting me in a new car!

It was kind of sad to say farewell to Regina, I’ll admit, but I am so freaking excited about my new car, it’s not even funny!  Love love love it!!!  She still needs a name, although I’m leaning towards Robin Sparkles, in keeping the television references alive and well.  Both of my sisters shot that name down.

I’ve been watching a lot of the Olympic Trials.  I was most excited for gymnastics – hands down my favorite event of the Summer Olympics!  I was heartbroken for Nastia Liukin’s fall off the uneven bars and really disappointed that neither she nor Alicia Sacramone made the team.  While the women that are heading to London have some serious talent, I think that the veterans would have added some much needed experience to the team. Nothing will top the Magnificent Seven, though.  Nothing.

In the midst of a busy, stressful several days last week and insane heat this week, my workouts have taken a toll.

Seriously, Mother Nature, 100 degrees?!  I live in the Midwest!  If I wanted these temperatures, I’d move down South!  Don’t get me wrong, I love hot weather, but this is ridiculous.

I ran the Reeds Lake Run 10k on Saturday!  I was really hoping for a PR and for the first half, I really thought I had it in me.  At the 5k point, I was a couple minutes ahead of where I wanted to be.  Then the heat and the fast start caught up to me, and the last half was a bit more of a struggle.  Okay, it was a lot more of a struggle!  Rather than a PR, I ended up with my slowest time yet.  I was disappointed at first, but moved on pretty quickly.  After all, a finish is a finish – and it’s a hell of a lot more than I could have done a few years ago!

Beyond that and a rough attempt at a run yesterday, I really haven’t worked out at all lately.  My training has taken such a huge hit and I worry I’m going to pay for it.  Honestly though, while I might pay for it, I also know my limits and how much I can handle – something had to go and that was it.  The struggle is to regain the motivation I need!  It’s easy to get out of the workout routine.  I have to remember how good a workout leaves me feeling and my ultimate goals.  I have to get my eye back on the prize.  I have to not beat myself up for missing some workout – it’s not the end of the world!

My roommate, Sara, and I tried to beat the heat today and headed to a movie.  We saw What to Expect When You’re Expecting at the local cheap theater.

I really didn’t have overly high expectations, but it was really fun!  It had a good mix of humor and touching moments.  Plus, there are some serious major names in the cast!  I’ve otherwise enjoyed a pretty lazy 4th of July which has been just the thing I needed.  This whole day off in the middle of the week thing is pretty awesome!  I could really get used to it, although I’ve had to remind myself quite a few times that it’s only Wednesday and I still have to go to work tomorrow.  It feels so much like a Saturday!

Congrats on the new wheels! For the record, I love the name 🙂

The heat has been insane. I feel ya on the lackluster workouts.

Seriously, I think Robin Sparkles is the most awesome car name ever. <3

The heat is killing me here, too. 103 degrees as a high for today – NO. I live in the north for a reason!

Bah! This weather is killing my running plans too! I ran yesterday morning but then thought I was going to pass out when I hit the “sunny” part of my run. It was a like a death ray.

Congrats on the shiny new car!
