carrots and apples are not pizza.

When I left the house this morning, it was 55 degrees!  Michigan + mid-December ≠ temperatures in the fifties.  I’m not complaining though – especially because it dropped about 20 degrees as the day went on.  Such weird weather.

We had the office Secret Santa revealing at lunch today – I was totally dead on guessing who had me and ironically she was the person I had, so we were gifting to each other.  Almost everyone went in on pizza, but I took the healthy route.  Apples with peanut butter and carrots are not nearly as tasty as a couple slices of cheesy, greasy pizza, but the better choice overall.  The CLIF bar, though, now THAT was good.

I munched on some cinnamon sugar pita chips (I totally wrote pizza instead of pita at first. It’s on my brain!) before heading out.  They’ve been in my desk drawer for way too long.  Still edible though.

These babies are messy!

I worked out for the first time in a freaking WEEK today.  Such a slacker.  I ran 3.0 miles in 33:04 – I started off faster than I should have – and I knew it, but didn’t slow down.  I finished strong though and sprinted the last 0.1 mile at a 7:30 pace!  How do people run for miles and miles that fast?!  Holy crap.  I did 3.0 miles on the bike to cool down, as well.

So, runners or others who may have insight, here’s my question.  Sometimes when I run, I get really sharp pains in my upper back/shoulder area (in the general vicinity of my index finger).

Usually it’s not too terribly bad, but today it was so intense I may have shed a couple tears – not one of those “hurts so good” kind of hurts.  Any thoughts on what might be causing it or how to make it not happen?

I had a work Christmas party tonight!  Such fun, except I felt horribly underdressed!  Since I was coming from the gym, I just wore the dress pants and sweater I had worn all day and all the other women were showing up in their LBDs!  Epic fail.  The amazing food made up for it though.

I was crazy tired and cut out by 8:30.  I don’t know about y’all, but I am so glad tomorrow’s Friday!  This week has been exhausting!

I don’t know if this is the same type of pain, but I get it in my shoulders too when I am too tense up there. I try to keep my shoulders/arms loose while running and will do a jumping jack motion with my arms every half mile or so just to shake things out. Looks crazy but it helps! When I started running it would get so painful and no one could tell me what was wrong… then again, I asked my health professor and friends who liked working out in general, not anyone who ran.

One of my friends is a PT and a runner…I might have to see if he has any insight…

you mean pizza before pita? : )

you prob have some kind of tension that is tensing or spasming more when in your running posture. everything takes the impact. maybe you need some massages and chiropractic treatments? i see my chiro every few weeks. my hips like to ‘lock’ up and reduce my range of motion. that’ll help keep things in alignment and reduce spasms. yoga is great too. and body rollers.

Dang it typos! I must have REALLY had pizza on the brain!

You know, I’ve had a few people in very unrelated conversations mention chiro to me in the last week or so. I might have to look into that.
