bloggers invade DC.

Hello from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport!  I have a 4 hour layover which is unfortunate because I’m really just ready to be back in Grand Rapids.  Long layovers are the worst, especially when you’re ready to be home!

I was a bit of a slacker this weekend, at least in the sense of photography/blogging.  I took hardly any pictures, despite having my camera with me 95% of the time; the only time I didn’t carry it was during the race.  But, let’s recap the weekend anyhow!  There were to blogger meetups that I went to and both were a blast!

friday:  pizzeria paradisio.

Friday night, I met up with 7 others for a blogger/pre-race dinner at Pizzeria Paradisio.  It was really great to meet some new people!  The group was really fun and I think everyone had a good time!

Several of us got a bunch of different pizzas to share including the half Genovese/half Bottarga.

I had one slice of each of those.  Meghann blogs about adding egg to her pizza on occasion, so I was intrigued by that.  Turns out, it’s pretty tasty!  It also turns out that bottarga is not actually anything vegetarian friendly.  It’s known as the “poor man’s caviar” and is some kind of seafood-ish food.  So, that’s unfortunate, but it’s not the first time I’ve unintentionally eaten something that wasn’t vegetarian and I’m sure it won’t be the last!  Life goes on.

I also had two slices of Quatro Formaggi.  It had pecorino, fontina, gorgonzola, and mozzarella cheeses which made for a really strong flavor, but I loved it!

saturday: northside social.

Saturday evening, about 50 bloggers and readers packed into Northside Social, a coffee house/wine bar in Arlington, VA.  It was such a cute little place!  I wish Grand Rapids had something like this.  Actually, maybe I don’t.  I think I’d spend far too much money.

I had a great time re-connecting with people I met at the Healthy Living Summit, finally meeting others whose blogs I’ve read for awhile, and meeting a TON of new faces, such as Joy.

I definitely “borrowed” this picture off of Caitlin‘s recap of the evening…go visit Healthy Tipping Point and tell her hi!  And, completely unrelated, but I don’t know why my eye randomly does that wide-eyed, super excited look.

There were a lot of people that did the half marathon that morning and even a few ballers that ran the full, like Evan and Becky.

Between the sheer exhaustion of two super early mornings and running the race that morning and the somewhat overwhelming amount of people crammed into a fairly small area (there were moments it was so loud I could hardly hear the people sitting right next to me!), I was feeling a bit out of sorts for part of the evening.  The glass of merlot on a fairly empty stomach probably didn’t help matters much.

A bit part of why I signed up for the National Half Marathon was knowing I would get to hang out with some wonderful people for the weekend and after great evenings over pizza and wine, I’m so glad I did!  I had an absolutely wonderful time and I can’t wait for the next opportunity to hang out with blogworld friends!
