belated birthday celebration.

How is it already Sunday night?!  I swear, weekends just go by faster and faster!  It was a blur though, with so much happening!

I made some work on my 28 while 28 list this weekend!  Friday night, I tried my first of 28 new beers:  a Post Road Pumpkin Ale, which was pretty decent.  I like it better than the Blue Moon pumpkin, but I still haven’t found one I really love.

I also gathered together my first pile of 28 items to get rid of, all heading to In the Image, a local Goodwill-esque organization that I really love supporting.  16 tops, 5 bottoms (pants, skirts), 3 pairs of shoes, 2 belts, 1 purse, and 1 decorative item.

I’m really excited to work on this minimalist goal of the year – I have so much stuff that I really don’t need, that just lies around.  I think as the months go by, though, it’ll get harder, forcing me to really evaluate what I truly need to keep.

The highlight of the weekend was today:  a belated family dinner to celebrate all the summer birthdays!  Yes, I know it’s October.  Summer was just crazy all around this year and finding a date that worked was next to impossible.

All in all, we celebrated 8 birthdays:  my uncle, both sisters, both brothers-in-law, a niece, my cousin’s baby, and myself.  Let’s be real, though:  5 week old Harper was definitely the star of the show.

How can you not adore such a precious little face, though?  So. freaking. cute.

The food spread was ridiculously amazing.  So amazing that I was too busy stuffing my face to actually snap any pictures of the food.  Suffice it so say, I was full before we even finished with the appetizers!

Sarah and Katie made the dessert, a charlotte, which was quite delicious.  Katie (in the orange) wants to own a bakery when she grows up and it’s so fun listening to her talk about it.  She’s 14, but dead set on doing this with her life and gets so excited about it.

I wish I had been that set on my dreams when I had been 14!  If this dessert was any indication, she’s off to a great start!  Also, doesn’t her hair look great?  She went to her first homecoming dance last night.  Ah!  I don’t feel old enough to have a niece going to homecoming dances!!  Cray-cray.

The family had sports on most of the day and we watched the Lions pull out a win against the Cowboys.  Which, let’s talk about that for a second.  The Lions are undefeated four games into the season?!  This, my friends, is what borders on a miracle.  This is the first time since 1980 they’ve had a 4-0 start!  Keep it up, boys!

We also watched the Tigers beat the Yankees in the second postseason game of that series.  I am, admittedly, a Yankees fan in large part because of my deep love of New York.  But, when they’re playing against the Tigers, I’m completely loyal to the land shaped like a hand!  Sadly, I’ve never been to a Tigers game.  Seeing a Tigers/Yankees game in person is high on my bucket list!

A good weekend all around!  I’m not at all ready to face Monday morning though!!  Off to bed, it’ll be here before I know it!

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Looks like a great weekend, Mindy (and happy late birthday!). Love the idea of being more minimalist in your lifestyle – I think we all need that and it’s a great challenge for everyone (myself included!). I had a great fall-ish weekend with some farmer’s market action, some sips of wine and bites of brownies here and there, a beautiful long run, and some good times of quiet and reflection. Hey – have a great week ahead!

So much I want to comment on here! First, what’s a charlotte? Besides a gorgeous looking cake type thing…. Also, I am SO PUMPED about a) the Lions and b) the Tigers. Although I foster a deep hatred for the Yankees so there is no conflict for me there ;). And last thing… have you tried New Holland’s pumpkin beer? It’s called Ichabod and I love it!

It’s a layered dessert – layers of super light cake with layers of mousse. I think it’s actually way more involved than that, but that’s the best I can do! 🙂

I actually had the one pumpkin beer I tried in a variety 6 pack and I’m pretty sure there was a New Holland in there – I’m saving it for last because I always love, love, love their stuff!
