back in the game.

I had mixed emotions about working out tonight.  This afternoon, I was really excited to get back at it.  Then, it came time to leave work and I realized how easy it was to get in the habit of going straight home.  Then, I was nervous about how my knee would hold up.  But, off I went, excuses be damned.  First, a pre-workout snack:  pretzels.

I started out with some strength training.  I’m really determined to incorporate it into my training this go around.  I know it will make me a stronger runner and just stronger all around.  I did three sets of this circuit with 8.0 pound weights:

  • 1 minute plank
  • 20 crunches
  • 40 bicycle crunches (20 on each side)
  • 12 chest flys
  • 5 “real” push-ups
  • 12 triceps curls
  • 12 biceps curls
  • 12 overhead presses

I felt like it was a really good mix of upper body and core.  I do need to research other strength exercises to incorporate though!  My knowledge is pretty basic in that regard.

I hit up Zumba afterwards and there were a few points when my knee started aching a bit, but it faded pretty fast.  I’m not sure that continuing on was the right decision, but it’s feeling good right now.  We’ll see how it holds up with a run tomorrow!  Hopefully I’m not jinxing myself, but I feel like I might be back in the game.

dinner.

I always crave something cold for dinner on the nights I go to Zumba and nothing was no exception.  Within minutes of walking in the house, I was busy making myself a smoothie in a bowl.  This one had

  • 1 container mango Chobani
  • frozen strawberries and blackberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 cup (approximate) almond milk

All topped off with some Bear Naked Vanilla Almond Crunch granola!  It was so delish, even if I was freezing cold for the next hour!  Well worth it!

Hope your week started off well!  See ya tomorrow!
