as soon as we arrived, we were heading home.

Almost as soon as we got to Wisconsin (or so it felt), it was time for Andi and I to pack up and head back to Grand Rapids!  We spent just about as much time on the road this weekend as we did in Milwaukee.  It was well worth it to celebrate with our friends on their wedding day!

Breakfast and lunch were on the road:  first destination after leaving the hotel was Starbucks.  Caffeine + breakfast = winning.

The most important stop in the way back to Michigan?  Trader Joe’s!  When there’s not a TJs close by, this girl takes advantage of that stop anytime it’s possible.  I was in foodie heaven!  I got a mix of things I know I like, things I’ve seen on other blogs that people rave about, and things that just sounded awesome.

Dear Trader Joe’s people:  Please build a store in Grand Rapids.  I’d love you forever and likely single-handedly keep you in business.  Love, Mindy.

The other necessary stop before leaving Wisconsin was finding a regular grocery store so Andi could stock up on Spotted Cow beer.  She was bringing some back for herself and a friend.  I got excited when I saw a case of Abita (a brewery out of New Orleans), so I ended up buying one for myself and one for my friend Ashley.

We both agreed that the cashier at the grocery store was definitely judging us harshly.

After that stop, it was time to head back to my beloved land shaped like a hand!  The drive was pretty smooth sailing; we got caught in a bit of traffic once we hit Chicago for what we figured was the Cubs game that afternoon.  Once we got past the city, I was ready for some lunch.  Burger King isn’t my favorite thing in the world, but they have a Morningstar burger on the menu, so it works.  Plus, I was crazy hungry and fries sounded super tasty!

Eventually we made it back home and I couldn’t have been more thrilled.  Between house sitting and the road trip, I hadn’t been home in over a week!  I did some exciting things like unpacking and going through mail.  I know, my life is glamorous.  Be jealous.

Despite everything I bought at Trader Joe’s earlier in the day, I am lacking on foods that actually come together for a full meal.  I worked with what I had and threw some black beans, diced tomatoes, and a bit of onion together, and seasoned it with garlic, cilantro, and salt.

Nothing special, but it made a nice little dip to go with some tortilla chips.

What a crazy, jam packed weekend it was!  So much fun, but exhausting all at the same time!

Next time you are in Wisconsin, specifically Milwaukee, skip the Starbucks and hit up Alterra! They have THE BEST coffee and its fair trade!

Also, looks like you got some good TJ’s stuff. If you ever need anything, let me know and I’d be happy to ship you whatever you want.

Finally, I wonder if you know my sister, and ran into her by chance. Little Miss Wedding Planner/Bookworm Wife? 🙂

Good to know – I always love local places! I’ll keep that in mind if I ever head that way again! Thanks for the TJs offer, very greatly appreciated! I lurve that store!

And yes, I DO know your sister/saw her! We met when they were up in Michigan back in March! 🙂
