an eating out kind of day.

Sorry for the  lack of postage the past couple days – I was out of commission with a migraine on Tuesday, not to mention the Internet has been out at my house (hopefully being fixed today, fingers crossed!).

Tuesday’s migraine was the worst I’ve had in a really long time.  Normally, I can at least feel like being up and moving by noon-ish, but I was down for the count until probably 6:30/7:00 that night.  No fun!

Yesterday was a pretty quality day, although I unintentionally (and perhaps somewhat carelessly) messed up on the Vegan Month Challenge.  A Smashburger opened up in Grand Rapids yesterday, so I ventured over for lunch.  I was thrilled because they had a black bean burger!  The carelessness comes into play when I failed to ask any questions about it.  Thus, I was completely unaware that the grill is coated in butter, their special sauce has mayo, and they use an egg bun.

Oops.

Vegan? No. Delicious? Yes.

After work, I had to weave my way through the traffic detours for the motorcade for former First Lady Betty Ford (her funeral and interment are here in Grand Rapids this week) in order to get to the Y.  I was slightly worried about how many roads were going to be closed, if it would be even harder to get home, but fortunately I was fine!

I had probably the best workout I’ve had in a really long time.  It was tough and I’m slightly paying for it with knee pain today, but I felt awesome by the time I finished!

  • Run (treadmill): 2 miles, 22:17
  • Elliptical: 2 miles, 23:50
  • 100 Push-up Challenge, Week 1, Day 2:  16
  • 3000 in 35 Abs Challenge:  200 (980 total)
  • Run (treadmill): 1 mile, 12:12
I had planned on just walking that last mile, but ended up throwing in a couple short (0.1 mile) sprints in there!  I still am not sure where I stand on being able to do the marathon in October, but I left feeling like there was still hope!
Once I left, I headed to dinner at Carrabba’s with my dad and stepmom.  I started with a wonderfully delish pomegranate martini.  I wasn’t planning on having a drink, but they had me at pom!
I ate some salad and a lot  of bread with olive oil while waiting for our entrees to come.
I ordered the penne franco, but got it with whole wheat spaghetti instead of the penne and no cheese.  I’m sure waiters and cooks hate people like me.
I definitely demolished that whole bowl.  I’m not sure if it was that good or if I was that hungry, but either way, there was nothing to take home at the end of the meal!
Lots of eating out and heavy foods yesterday, but all so wonderful!

I’ve never heard of Smashburger, but the burger and fries look amazing! If it’s as good as it looks, I’m definitely going to make sure to go the next time I’m in GR. And way to go rocking your workout!

Sorry about the migraine. No fun whatsoever. Those sweet potato fries look amazing – I’m definitely getting those next time. I can’t believe we missed each other by less than 2 hours!

The pasta looks pretty amazing. That burger looked pretty amazing as well.

I know you are on your vegan month challenge, but remember that it doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing. I heard somewhere that you should think of each time you eat as a vote. The more times you “vote” vegan, the better, but the overall effect of going vegan as often as you can is good, even if you have a few smashburger-esque “fails” now and then. 🙂

Oh, that’s a good way to look at it! I like it, thanks Lauren! 🙂
