a carby kind of day.

It’s officially River Bank Run week!  Be prepared for lots of talk of this race in the next few days as I gear up for Saturday.  I’m 99% certain I’m sticking with the full 25k rather than dropping down to the 10k like I’ve been considering.  I’m just going to take it slow, stop and stretch when I need to, and do my best.  I want to run this race from the deepest part of my heart and I know I’m going to be so disappointed if I don’t.

So 15.5 miles it is!  I’m anxious and excited and nervous all at the same time, and all for a race I did just a year ago.

I keep getting drawn back to this post from Shauna Niequist, one of my favorite authors, when she announced last March that she was running the 2010 Chicago Marathon.  Her words helped me through to the finish line last year and I am finding them equally as inspiring this year.

I need to work some things out, leave some things behind, get over some long-held fears.  I need to know that I’m strong in some ways that I’ve never really believed.

Breakfast was another Bagel Thin with strawberry cream cheese.  The bagels are on their last leg, so I’m trying to eat them up.  I just hate throwing food away!  I added about half a teaspoon of chia seeds for a little extra staying power.

The staying power definitely didn’t work.  I was ready for more food within a couple hours.  I need to get better at incorporating protein into my breakfast.

The highlight of the morning?  The running nerd in me freaked out this morning when legendary Bart Yasso responded to one of my Tweets.

Sure, his Tweet was not completely out of the blue because I had responded to one of his Tweets just moments before.  But, that rarely garners a response back, so I squealed was thrilled that he wrote to me!

Apparently, I’m big on carbs today.  If breakfast weren’t enough, I threw in a few more for lunch with some peanut butter on an English muffin.  I wanted to add honey but it’s all crystallized, so I need to figure out how to remedy that.

I had a bowl of Frosted Mini-Wheats, too.  The downfall of eating lunch at my desk?  Sometimes it’s awkward to take photos of my food.  Today was one of those instances!

The great thing about a big race this week is that I can totally count carb-loading as a legitimate excuse for my love of all things carby.

So far, my highlight of the day has been my skinny sugar free dante mocha. I woke up this morning feeling like I’d been hit by a truck.

Its only ten o clock in my neck of the woods, so hopefully it’ll get better soon!

You can microwave your honey and that will uncrystallized it. I do it all the time and it will last.
