September | Mars Hill Bible Church

Mars Hill is the church I’ve been attending since 2004; in the past (during college and before student loan repayments started up), I was fairly consistent about tithing (i.e. donating) at least some of my income when I could.  In 2011, I’ve donated once.  With my goal to donate to a different charity each month, Mars seemed like the natural place to start.  It is a community that I love, that I’m actively involved in, and that has made such an impact in my life both spiritually, but just as a person.

I have been a big supporter of TWLOHA since their earliest days, five years ago.  Jamie Tworkowski started the moment as a MySpace to help a friend struggling with some big, heavy issues.  What I love about this movement is that it gives a voice to people who live day in and day out with some big struggles, but issues that are often too taboo to talk about in society.  Issues like depression and self-injury are very real and because they’re such taboo topics, those struggling often go without help.  (read more)
